Annie Kate, a housewife, and Granberry Holland Ward, Jr., an electrical engineer, had Sela Ward on 11th July 1956 in Meridian, Mississippi. She had one younger sister, Jenna, and two more youthful brothers, Brock and Granberry Holland Ward III.
Sela completed her graduation from the University of Alabama. She was famous for her university too. She got the title of Homecoming Queen, she was a part of Crimson Tide cheerleader and also joined Chi-Omega sorority.

Ward tied the knot with entrepreneur Howard Elliot Sherman on May 23, 1992. She had two beautiful children, Austin and Anabella, with him.
