At Home With Universal Pictures Donna Langley (Exclusive)

In addition to being THR’s Women in Entertainment Executive of the Year in 2015, Donna Langley is arguably one of the town’s coolest-dressed executives — favoring low-key, effortlessly chic pieces by brands such as Rick Owens, Maison Margiela and The Row.

Not surprisingly, the chairman of Universal Pictures has a weekend ranch in Ojai that’s every bit as understated yet stylish — think exposed wood beams, a rustic stone fireplace and inviting deep leather armchairs.

In the new winter issue of Porter magazine (out Sept. 30), Langley can be seen cozied up at the ranch in an oversized Tod’s knit with Ruby, her Australian Shepherd; standing radiant in a marigold gown in her makeshift outdoor theater; and strolling the grounds in a classic camel Michael Kors coat.

“I’ve reached a point in my career where I’m no longer climbing the mountain. It’s about figuring out how to stay at the top,” says Langley, who loves to escape the hustle and bustle of Hollywood on the weekends with her husband Ramin Shamshiri (a well known interior designer, who created the family-friendly space) and their two boys Adello, 5, and Paolo, 7.

In her interview with Porter magazine, Langley admits that she loathes having a director’s chair on set (“It makes me feel like an old grandmother, sat in the corner doing her knitting or something. It’s horrible!”); reveals that more than anything she wants to cast Adele in a movie (“I’m in love with her”); and credits her early 20-something hostess gig at The Roxbury as the genesis of her accomplished Hollywood career (“It was my job to take people up to the VIP room. … I met everybody, Ari Emanuel [the talent agent satirized in Entourage], Pete Berg [the actor, writer and director] and Michael De Luca [who worked at New Line]”).

When asked to share one of her golden rules or life mantras, Langley laughs and says, “I’ll tell you what, get your nails done, that’s one of mine.”
